“Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the best fighter in the world, Can we all just deal with that and move on?”
By Mike Cassell (PBR) (
Sometimes it is hard for “regular people” like us, to realize the unbelievable amount of talent, it takes to be a world champion, and so as one of the “regular people”, I would like to state the following. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the best fighter pound for pound in the world. If I have to read another lame article, column or story, about how he is afraid of Antonio Margarito, or listen to the empty headed HBO commentators (except Emanuel Stewart) hype up Margarito, I am going to barf up my Philly cheese steak. It is laughable to say that Mayweather would run from a fighter that lost to 4 fighters, of lesser talent than himself. His hand speed, and ring positioning, along with shoulder movement, and punching power, makes him the best around, period.
I am not saying that Antonio Margarito isn’t good, but his publicist, has got to be the best damn publicist pound for pound, Bar None!
It is easy to say Mayweather is arrogant, and holding all the cards, well, that is because he is arrogant, and holding all the cards, and the best fighter in the world. He is getting bashed up and down, for being afraid of, not just Margarito, but everybody. If anyone who cares to hear the truth about Mayweather, and wants to hear it or would rather listen to a bunch of quotes, that are just talk, look away from the light.
Fact number one, he is 36 – 0, with 24 knockouts. In his last 6 fights, he has four TKO’s. He has won four World Championships, in four weight classes. These facts are undeniable. Let’s talk about how he fought a few times, with a broken hand, and won, easily. Very few boxers, in the history of the game, would have been able to fight with one hand, and get a knockout, or a unanimous decision. A lot of “hardcore” fight fans say, “He is afraid of Margarito”, or Hatton, (which is laughable). He has one serious, possibly career ending down the road, problem and that is, his hands. He has always had bad hands. They fracture, because he punches, so fast and so hard, and so often, he tends to damage them against fighters that carry cement beards. He picks his fights carefully, because I think he knows, his hands will not hold out as long as his will. I refuse to jump on that “Mayweather Hating” train. The guy is just too good, and too smart, to allow a good publicist, and few quotes, goad him into getting less money than he is worth. If you knew Floyd, you would know, if he turned down 8 million to fight Margarito, then he will be getting 10 million to fight Baldomir, or somebody else. Remember his hands fracture easily, but his brain is working just fine.
